After spiritual foods, earthly foods!

By reopening its doors after four years of work, the Carnavalet museum, dedicated to the history of Paris, has inaugurated, on the rue des Francs-Bourgeois side, an open-air restaurant (which will take up its winter quarters indoors) in the most beautiful setting possible: French gardens.

Les Jardins d'Olympe - that's its name - reinvents the idea of the picnic, with counter service in stackable boxes to take to tables (there are 250 seats in total).

The menu is vegetarian, sometimes vegan or gluten-free and comes from sustainable agriculture. Let's say it, it's a success... which we owe to an almost exclusively female team. Chef Chloé Charles, a former “Top chef”, signs the menu made 100% from sustainable and seasonal agriculture.

Andréa Sham is in charge of the sweet part while mixologist Camille Vidal is in charge of the cocktails. When stylist Marine Serre dresses the waiters and waitresses.

On the menu: fresh salad (datterino tomatoes with hibiscus); mild salad (fried zucchini, chickpeas, hazelnuts), spicy salad (potatoes, cucumber, celery stalk).
For dessert: blackberry pavlova, lavender, chamomile cream puffs, shellfish madeleines with dark chocolate shell, etc.

During the day, all dishes, sweet or savory, are €9. In the evening, three-course menu €27.

The decorator François Champsaur brings his famous “touch” and adds to the grand century decor an air of a Roman summer palace with chestnut furniture and gigantic earthenware pots, full of aromatic herbs.

At the Marais Dance Center
BIG HEART

Grand Coeur, courtyard of the Marais dance center, photo: Grand coeur (Instagram)

In the paved courtyard of the Marais dance center and Café de la gare (rue du Temple, 4e), Grand Cœur has already proven itself. But we happily return for a business lunch or a romantic tête-à-tête in this listed courtyard.

If in the room there is a warm and designer atmosphere: exposed stone walls, marble tables, large mirrors, we also appreciate, on the terrace, the cuisine of chef Juan Fernando Barajas.

The menu, halfway between the bistro and the gourmet restaurant, with French and Latin inspirations created with Mauro Calagreco, the chef of the three-star the Mirazur in Menton has many followers.

The demanding and vegan menu (abundance of vegetables) is based on seasonal products with a zero waste ambition. Pea soup 14€, sea bream ceviche 22€, small stuffed with Mediterranean vegetables 25€, half yellow cockerel 27€, line-caught fish 33€, strawberry and rhubarb tart 15€…

The address is appreciated but also for its calm and its coexistence with the world of artists, dancers or actors, who come and go to their rehearsal sessions. Only good vibes!

GRIFFIN

Dotted with green plants and old signs, the 80 m2 courtyard of Crédit municipal (the first pawnbroking establishment, commonly nicknamed “Chez ma tante”) has been home for almost two years the Griffon café-restaurant. There is a selection of homemade soups, sandwiches, toasts, snacks, salads and desserts, all prepared and cooked on site.

Croque-monsieur or vegetarian toast or quinoa salad for €13. Quiche of the moment €11,50. Dessert from €3,50.

You feel at home in this lively, unpretentious and nicely decorated place where you come for a drink, brunch or lunch, or even work with your laptop.

The icing on the cake: the terrace overlooks one of the last vestiges of medieval Paris: a piece of the old surrounding wall of Philippe Auguste, built in the XNUMXth century.e century and destroyed in 1535.

We tested Ashtanga Yoga with Hawaiian Callie Mahoney

During Ashtanga Yoga sessions with Callie Mahoney, you feel like you're going to the end of the world, somewhere on a distant island. Normal: this former model who has been practicing yoga since a young age herself comes from Honolulu, the capital of Hawaii, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

An extraordinary dance course for All Saints’ Day

An extraordinary dance course for All Saints’ Day

Then we dance ? Yes, and not with just anyone! During the All Saints' Day holidays, the Nadine Bommer Dance Academy company takes up residence at the Center de Danse du Marais, where we sway our hips in a thousand ways, always with grace and good humor.

Where to swim in the Marais?

Where to swim in the Marais?

With the summer holidays approaching, what could be better than a few swimming sessions to shape a summer body? Unfortunately, the Marais only has one swimming pool on its territory, that of Saint-Merri, opposite Beaubourg (4th). Fortunately, two pools are not far away…

Divine brunch at the foot of Notre-Dame

Divine brunch at the foot of Notre-Dame

Of course, officially, it is not the Marais. But at Son de la Terre, a barge recently moored at the Montebello quay (5th), the 4th arrondissement is in sight. Moreover, this one is incredible: on one side, it is Notre-Dame flooded with sunlight; on the other, the quays, the book sellers, the walkers, the joggers.

Saka, a cocktail bar like in Tokyo

Saka, a cocktail bar like in Tokyo

Here is an address which gives the measure of the transformation of the Marais. And it's enough to silence the grumpy people whose mantra is: “It was better before…” No, everything was not better “before” in the Marais. Besides, there was no American bar like Saka, which cultivates a form of excellence that can only be found in Japan.

Jazz at 38Riv: The highlights of May

Jazz at 38Riv: The highlights of May

The only jazz club in the Marais, 38Riv is the temple of cool and swing. Rue de Rivoli, between Saint-Paul and Hôtel de Ville, its vaulted cellars are the home base of the new jazz scene. Every evening, the magic happens.
