Four ways to take a dip in the Marais

This revival ends more than a century of prohibition. Until the early 20th century, Parisians regularly swam in the Seine, dressed in heavy striped wool suits and bathing caps. Swimming was gradually restricted before being banned in 1923 due to river pollution and increased navigation. It took more than a hundred years, massive investments in water treatment, and the impetus of the 2024 Olympic Games to revive this tradition.

Just a stone's throw from Île Saint-Louis, it offers one of the best ways to rediscover Paris in the sunshine, combining heritage, fresh air, and a friendly atmosphere. Just a few minutes away, the Cour des Lions swimming pool offers a more traditional experience. Behind its unassuming facade lies a 25-meter pool bathed in light thanks to its large glass roof and architecture typical of 1930s municipal facilities. Fashion enthusiasts will also know that Simon Porte Jacquemus presented his very first fashion show here, while still a student, transforming the pool's edge into a catwalk. Its other advantage? An unbeatable price: €3,50 for full-price admission. The only drawback is its opening hours, which are often changed depending on the season and activities, so it's essential to check the schedule before going.

We really like this swimming pool renamed Marie Marvingt, in homage to the resistance fighter and aviation pioneer, who was the first French woman to complete the 12 km crossing of Paris by swimming.

It's a shame, then, that this closure is happening right in the middle of the holiday season and during the predicted heatwaves. On the other hand, one could argue that this is a necessary facelift to allow this neighborhood pool to continue its history for many decades to come.
