The Marais oasis in Carnavalet is lovely.

In the courtyard of the Carnavalet Museum, Joli offers a setting that, in itself, is worth the trip. A French-style garden, almost timeless, with a touch of ancient Rome that gives the impression of a Paris frozen in another era. Here, even just sitting down for a coffee is an experience in itself.

Nestled between 17th-century facades, the terrace unfolds on light-colored gravel, sheltered by the museum walls. A rare setting, it stands in stark contrast to the surrounding bustle, even in this historic district. On rainy days, visitors retreat indoors: large, elegant rooms that extend this hushed atmosphere without breaking the spell.

This isn't the restaurant's first attempt. Youssef Gastli, the third chef to take the reins here, brings a summer menu that leans more towards a chic bistro than a simple neighborhood eatery. The cuisine is seasonal, light, and punctuated with a few vegetarian options, designed to complement the setting rather than dominate it.

In the afternoon, it's a popular spot for a coffee—at a price comparable to others in the neighborhood, with the added bonus of an atmosphere that's hard to beat. For dessert, Paloma Laguette puts a contemporary spin on classic favorites, while the bar, helmed by Théo Mébarki, offers a selection of cocktails and mocktails featuring a range of French spirits. It's the perfect setting for long summer evenings—though the bill can quickly add up.
