Natalia Turine in the “Globe bookstore” – © Anaïs Costet

A stone's throw from Place de la Bastille, the beautiful Globe bookstore is the only Russian bookstore in Paris. Attached to the Marais, on Boulevard Beaumarchais, it succeeded the Librairie russe de Paris which, during the Cold War, was managed by the Soviet state.

The comparison and connection ends there. Because Natalia Turine, the current owner, is, on the contrary, a free and rebellious spirit who does not follow the Putinian party line - but not at all.

On the contrary, she despairs over the invasion of Ukraine which, according to her, constitutes the prelude to a second breakup of Russia, after that of the Soviet Union in the 1990s.
