Ice creams “with classic and eccentric flavors” by Jacques Genin (l.), freshly swirled raspberry sorbet from Maison Plume (r.)

Jacques Genin ice cream

A short menu is often a guarantee of seriousness, even at an ice cream parlor. At Pierre Marcolini, this is certainly the case. In its fifth and largest Parisian boutique, located in the Marais since April 2023, the newcomer to the neighborhood offers four fresh ice creams and sorbets, before our eyes.

At the end of August, we tested the four flavors (two ice creams, two sorbets) offered that day: Bourbon vanilla from Madagascar, Sao Tomé & Principe grand cru chocolate, strawberry and, last but not least, walnut. coconut. So many frozen creations that belong to the “Frisson collection”, which changes and evolves according to the desires and inspirations of the Belgian chocolatier. Distinctive feature: all the ice creams, served in a pot (no cone) are topped with a thin disc of dark chocolate.

This chocolate heavyweight – the brand has 46 stores around the world – lives up to its reputation. The texture and smoothness are perfect, the aromas with simple and frank flavors develop nicely in the mouth. All with a good balance between sugar and fat, neither too much nor too little. WE love.
The 150 ml pot: €6,50

Sugar-free ice cream, Maison Plume

Eating sugar-free ice cream, did you think it was impossible? Well, think again. Already recognized for its zero-sugar pastries, Plume is taking on this summer challenge. On the program, ice creams and sorbets, without sugar, without syrup, without honey or synthetic sweeteners. It is the famous stevia expertly sourced by the house (without bitter taste) which adds the note of indulgence.

Every day, three flavors are offered. That day, it was matcha, vanilla, peanut and blackberry sorbet. These ice creams without added air or water have a dense, creamy texture and concentrated flavors. It's rounded, regressive, but without guilt or impact on blood sugar levels. IT’S TIME TO TO TASTE !

3 Belgian addresses in the Marais

3 Belgian addresses in the Marais

Whether they are Walloons or Flemish, the French love the Belgians for their energy and their communicative good humor. Here are some Belgian addresses firmly established in the Marais.

Divine brunch at the foot of Notre-Dame

Divine brunch at the foot of Notre-Dame

Of course, officially, it is not the Marais. But at Son de la Terre, a barge recently moored at the Montebello quay (5th), the 4th arrondissement is in sight. Moreover, this one is incredible: on one side, it is Notre-Dame flooded with sunlight; on the other, the quays, the book sellers, the walkers, the joggers.

Saka, a cocktail bar like in Tokyo

Saka, a cocktail bar like in Tokyo

Here is an address which gives the measure of the transformation of the Marais. And it's enough to silence the grumpy people whose mantra is: “It was better before…” No, everything was not better “before” in the Marais. Besides, there was no American bar like Saka, which cultivates a form of excellence that can only be found in Japan.

Jazz at 38Riv: The highlights of May

Jazz at 38Riv: The highlights of May

The only jazz club in the Marais, 38Riv is the temple of cool and swing. Rue de Rivoli, between Saint-Paul and Hôtel de Ville, its vaulted cellars are the home base of the new jazz scene. Every evening, the magic happens.
