In early August, Doug Emhoff, who could become "First Gentleman" if Kamala Harris, his wife, becomes President of the United States in November, walked along Rue de Rosiers (4th). Why? To commemorate the anniversary of the attack on the Jo Goldenberg restaurant that left six dead, including two Americans, and 22 injured on August 10, 1982.
A Jew himself, the vice-president's husband, who visited Auschwitz in 2023, has made the fight against anti-Semitism his hobbyhorse. On Rue des Rosiers, the former lawyer and jazz fan stopped at L'As du Falafel where for once – summer vacation oblige – the queue was tiny. He enjoyed the homemade sandwiches.
