The taste of a cherry. The taste for beauty. The taste for art. This is the theme of the exhibition “The taste of the subject” proposed by Mélissa Pinon at Rue de Turenne Galerie, at number 64 of the same street, from June 20 to 26.
With her still lifes, the artist – who was a member of the Casa de Velázquez in Madrid and some of whose works have been included in the collections of the MAC VAL in Vitry-sur-Seine – takes a unique look at everyday things to which she brings a new light, like “Dos”, an oil on canvas which represents… a cauliflower or “Pyramid”… of strawberries! His works are a tribute to the great masters, Manet, Chardin, Zurbaran.
“The subjects were chosen in the moment,” explains gallery owner Laurent Suchy. It's actually about holding your subject, as suddenly air transforms water into ice. Mélissa Pinon provokes the viewer's delight by painting a strawberry that one would want to eat and by translating the sensuality of the flesh. We are clearly faced with the challenges of a painting “on the motif” with variations of light and a certain fragility of plants and flesh,” adds the curator who, in parallel with his work as a visual artist, wishes to “tell stories with the works of other artists, supporting them by supporting their work, and collecting them.”
The exhibition will open on Monday 20 at 11 a.m. in the presence of the artist. Opening scheduled for Wednesday 22 from 14 to 18 p.m.
