Beautiful and Good

And there was light… But not just any light! Chandeliers, wall lights, lanterns, lamps and floor lamps: le Marais Mood visits the Marais' most remarkable lighting designers. This element is the key to happiness. Nothing is more precious and decisive, in fact, than choosing the right lighting to define the atmosphere and identity of a space. Fiat lux!

Octavio Amado

luxury, technology and elegance
Custom-made chandelier, Octavio Amado
Sculptor Octavio Amado has been creating lighting fixtures since 1993, first for pleasure and then, starting in 2002, by launching his own brand. A graduate of Fine Arts in Argentina, the artist has turned his artisanal workshop into a research laboratory where the nobility of materials meets the robotics of 3D printers. The Octavio Amado studio now produces lighting fixtures with a purist and modular style, installed in museums, embassies, hotels, universities, media libraries, public building entrances, and other shopping centers.

"To meet the needs of exceptional pieces or custom lighting installations in interior design projects, we create our works using noble materials, such as alabaster or Limoges porcelain," explains Octavio Amado. The sculptures are handcrafted in Parisian workshops and are then produced in numbered copies. Prices range from €300 to €2, not forgetting the Venus 400 alabaster chandelier, which costs €36.

delisle

a century of unique know-how
Reference 14005, Delisle, © Stephane Ruchaud
In this private mansion overlooking the courtyard, the Delisle showroom has been displaying its collections since... 1895! Ah, that feeling of being at the Palace of Versailles! From the lanterns of the Place de la Concorde to the chandeliers of the George V, including those in the choir of the Sainte Clotilde Basilica (7th arrondissement), Delisle has been contributing to ensuring that Paris remains a "City of Lights" for 120 years. The company also operates in Tokyo, Vienna, Brussels, and London. At the Montreuil workshop, pieces are designed for private individuals or luxury hotels. Pendant lights, alabaster balls, and other pendants are manufactured here, using contemporary or classic designers. Iron, bronze, and brass are used in the composition of pedestal tables, console tables, and clocks.

As early as the 1920s, Delisle was already designing ironwork and artistic bronzes for the wealthy American elite. The aristocracy across the Atlantic vied for the brand's expertise and became passionate about Art Deco. After the war, orders for lighting fixtures for major decorative projects poured in. But the Delisle style spans all eras. Ask to see photos of the neo-Gothic parure chandelier.

Caneloupo

custom-made Italian lampshade
Caneloupo
Emilie Frey, a film production assistant, has been hunting for lamp bases and printed fabrics, which she then resold on social media. It was an immediate success. Her brand, Caneloupo, means "between dog and wolf." When night falls, the light is turned on. In this welcoming showroom, a former concept store that has remained in its original state, the artist has been designing her models since 2022 and receives visitors on rendez-vous to present his classic style creations with a modern twist.

In the window, the panther reading lamp attracts attention and sets the tone. At her home, toile de Jouy is mixed with raffia and cotton. Ikat, an oriental fabric, is adorned with fringes and braids picked up here and there. In a word, it's baroque and surprising. "Otherwise, you quickly get bored with a lampshade; generally, it's all white. The idea is to make it a decorative element in its own right," assures the stylist. Her clientele, both private individuals and interior designers, vie for pendant lights, wall lights, and lampshades. Everything is made in the Marais and made in France. Expect to pay €180 for a wall light, €250 for a custom-made ball, and €400 for a pendant light.

Beautiful and Good

It's a challenge, Beau et Bien. Opened in 2005, this art gallery decorates stores and windows around the world. Recruited first by Louis Vuitton and then by Marc Jacobs's management, Sylvie Maréchal then began sculpting light in 2005. The initial idea was to create a company based around high-power LEDs and to launch the first rechargeable wireless lamps on the market. This caused a stir at the Maison & Objets trade show.

The only problem: unfair competition from China. Her moon lamp has been copied since 2009. Sylvie Maréchal then reoriented her brand because, "it's difficult to compete against Chinese mass production. However, we have French DNA. So what's the difference between a round lamp and a round lamp? None, except the materials and the know-how. So we proposed something else: Limoges porcelain combined with LEDs." The result is unique pieces that have style and poetry and seem weightless. The brand is resonating as far away as the United States and Japan. Everything is custom-made, according to the allocated budget. Expect to pay at least 5 euros.
