The 200th anniversary of the invention of photography by the Frenchman Nicéphore Niepce is an opportunity to remember that Paris remains – cock-a-doodle-doo! – the capital of photography. A claim to fame due to several factors. Many renowned French and foreign photographers have worked in Paris: Henri Cartier-Bresson, Man Ray, Brassaï, André Kertész, etc. On the other hand, the city has seen the birth of the most famous photojournalism agencies: Magnum, Gamma, Sipa, Rapho, Vu, etc.

Le Marais extends this tradition by housing the European House of Photography (MEP) world-renowned and the Henri Cartier-Bresson Foundation as well as several galleries dedicated to photography, starting with the Red Gallery, rue du Pont-Louis-Philippe.
