It's hard to imagine a Parisian summer today without Paris Plages. Launched in 2002 by the City of Paris, the event revolutionized the way people experience the banks of the Seine. What began as a simple promenade with a few deckchairs and palm trees has, over the years, become a vast rendez-vous free summer activities, attracting both Parisians and visitors. Every summer, the quays take on the appearance of a seaside resort, with their deck chairs, lawns, misting systems and relaxation areas.
The 2026 edition takes place from July 4th to August 30th and encompasses both banks of the Seine, from the Pont d'Iéna to the Pont des Arts on the Left Bank and from the Pont Neuf to the Port de l'Arsenal on the Right Bank, as well as the Bassin de la Villette and the Canal Saint-Martin. For the Marais district, it's a veritable open-air playground: the Bras Marie becomes one of the three official swimming areas in the Seine, while the neighboring quays host a daily program of entirely free events.
On the program: sports initiations (yoga, fitness, dance, pétanque, table tennis, flag football, or even giant games), some reading spaces installed outdoors, workshops for children, exhibitions, cultural events, concerts and rendez-vous musicalTemporary libraries, play areas and rest areas complete the setup, allowing you to spend a whole day by the water without leaving Paris.
The 2026 edition also puts the United States in the spotlight on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Throughout the summer, events celebrate Franco-American friendship, including introductions to flag football—a future Olympic sport in Los Angeles in 2028—as well as several rendez-vous cultural and festive events inspired by American culture. As every year, the program expands throughout the summer, making Paris Plages much more than an urban beach: a true open-air summer festival.
