The president of the French Paralympic Federation Guislaine Westelynck first passed the flame, under the Carreau hall, to Elodie Clouvel. She is the Olympic vice-champion in the modern pentathlon, a multi-sport discipline that includes fencing, swimming, horse riding, pistol shooting and running.

The silver medalist then passed the torch to Thibault Simon, who majestically walked up Rue Eugène Spuller in an exoskeleton. "I was so moved that I had to hold back my tears as I walked," said the man whose little brother designed the exoskeleton.

"It's incredible for someone who has difficulty walking to be able to get up and move around without any effort," added the torchbearer, who is usually deprived of mobility. "It was extraordinary."
