No, pastel is not necessarily linked to the world of painting. It is first of all a plant with medicinal properties whose leaves and stems contain a blue coloring principle.
Until the XNUMXth century, it was the source of blue dye in the world. After being dethroned by indigo and sinking into oblivion, for a long time, this herbaceous plant was brought up to date by a duo composed of Carole Garcia and Nathalie Juin, the founders of Officine graine de pastel, a brand present in the Marais in Paris for a decade, rue Pavée.
In 2003, they revived this medicinal plant used by Hippocrates 400 years BC, who already praised its dermatological and healing properties.
“From pastel oil and proteins, we are developing around fifty facial and body care formulas, with moisturizing, antioxidant and anti-aging actions,” explains Carole Garcia.
To promote short circuits, Graine de Pastel has created an agricultural cooperative whose fields are located near Toulouse, where the brand supports 25 people as well as four stores in Toulouse, Albi, Carcassonne and Paris in the Marais (the products are also on sale in pharmacies) which offer more than 30 references.

The best tattoo parlors in Marais
Tattooing, an age-old practice, has long been the prerogative of convicts, dock workers, the underworld and sailors. Although it has become democratized, now affecting all profiles and concerning one in five French people, including 16% women compared to 10% men, it still remains taboo due to its definitive and transgressive nature.

“He who masters odors, masters the heart of humanity,” wrote Patrick Süskind in his famous historical novel Perfume. Perfumer Lyn Harris intends to control the heart of Paris by opening her first boutique outside of London in the Marais, at 64, rue Vieille-du-Temple.
