“Bath potion” Lanvande Jojoba (l.), oils, serums and waters (r.) from Shade's Apothecary

The herbalist’s shop on rue du Point Louis-Philippe is the story of our times. After an international career in luxury and cosmetics (Hermès, Sephora), Shade Monirou became a “neoapothecary”. With fifteen years spent in major cosmetics and beauty houses, this “working woman” feels “the need to take care of herself and reconnect with her intuition and instinct”.

The result of this quest for meaning is Shade's Apothecary, where we find superplants to treat minor ailments. “I rediscovered the power of herbal medicine passed down by my grandmother,” says the owner of the place, whose establishment joins around twenty other herbalists in Paris.

“Considered a healer in Martinique, my grandmother used plants to heal her family but also those who asked her for advice,” continues Shade Monirou. In turn, I learned to connect my body and my mind by understanding that my emotions impact the harmony of the two. »

Did she have to overcome existing distrust of a profession banned in 1941 by the Vichy regime? At the time, France had 4500 herbalists. But they suddenly see their profession become illegal; and disappear the diploma attesting to their knowledge and skills. Persevering in this practice therefore amounts to an “illegal practice of pharmacy”. This decision led to the transfer of the herbalist profession to pharmacies.

“Today, the plants do not take their revenge; They take their place again, quietly congratulates Shade (whose first name is pronounced like that of the singer Sade, that is to say “chat-dé”). With Covid, we experienced a great crisis; "but plants have a reassuring value which is part of the same movement as the return to nature and spirituality", adds the neapothecary who offers a wide range of plants to treat female ailments (periods, menopause), regulate sleep, take care of your figure, regulate stress, etc.
