A block from the Saint-Paul metro station hides a little gem called Ajia (阿姊仔) which, in Mandarin, means “big sister”. This is the story of Kay and Geoffrey, a couple who formed at HEC and who, since 2018, have shared their love of Taiwanese cuisine, increasingly popular in Paris and the Marais. .

During their business studies, Kay regularly cooked for her group of student friends. One day, to thank her, they decide to rent a room in which they improvise a restaurant. Success is there because – we have verified – “Big Sister” offers authentic and succulent cuisine. And the attentive welcome adds to the pleasure of the taste buds.

Eggplant marinated with herbs, taro croquette with curry (or vegetarian), white radish cake, clams sautéed with basil, chicken with ginger but also “loh bih” (soft-boiled eggs, tofu, seaweed), “loh bah” (breast of confit pork), or even “loh bah bang” (white rice and confit pork belly): there is plenty to familiarize yourself with the subtle gastronomy of Taiwan using engraved wooden chopsticks or pretty lacquered cutlery.

Quentin, a regular who has been coming here for two years, gives a special mention to the “gua baos”, these rice flour buns: “The brioche is tender and the pork meat, simmered for 5 hours, and a tenderness to cry,” he said.

We also love desserts with low sugar content, such as “hei tang gau”, a steamed cake with brown sugar and cashew nuts coated with icing sugar. We enjoy ourselves and, along the way, we learn Mandarin. In short, at Ajia, we nourish our body and mind.

Piccola Mia, the pizzas of the Republic

On the Place de la République, a brasserie with Italian accents has just opened, which quickly made people forget the old Pizza Pino. Welcome to Piccola Mia, the fruit of the joyful encounter between Italian chef Denny Imbroisi, pizza chef Julien Serri and mixologist Matthias Giroud who creates a creative cocktail menu.

Bel Canto, an evening of singing

Bel Canto, an evening of singing

Pushing the door of Bel Canto is like entering the opera. On the upper quay of the Seine, facing Ile Saint-Louis, Bel Canto is not an ordinary restaurant. Here, we dine but above all, we come to listen to the great classics of lyrical art, performed by... the room staff!

Secret, or discreet, addresses are sometimes the best. This is the case of the Azzedine Alaïa Foundation café-restaurant, in the Marais, very close to the BHV. You enter through a carriage entrance which opens onto a paved courtyard. Without paying attention, we have just entered the kingdom of the brilliant fashion designer who died in 2017 at the age of 82.

Tattooing, an age-old practice, has long been the prerogative of convicts, dock workers, the underworld and sailors. Although it has become democratized, now affecting all profiles and concerning one in five French people, including 16% women compared to 10% men, it still remains taboo due to its definitive and transgressive nature.
