From the circus to the Carreau du Temple. Or rather, juggling. And not just any one! In partnership with the Maison des Jonglages de La Courneuve, Elsa Guérin revisits, at Carreau du Temple, this art from the angle of contemporary juggling.
On stage: three artists who look like they came out of the Three Graces, a painting by Cranach the Elder. In strange, sensitive, contemplative ballets, Kate Borshetti, Sarah Bourhis and Mathilde Robin dance against a black background which also evokes the mural paintings of ancient Egypt.
The Three Ball Jugglers weave a poetic canvas of moving bodies, forging a very personal path between documentary and intimate story. In Strange scenes in a gold mine, Elsa Guérin gives free rein to her creation and research. Under the aegis of her company Studio Phantôm, she reinterprets ball games into dance movements.
It's modern and ancient at the same time. Because already under the Roman Empire, between the year 50 and the XNUMXth century, people were juggling with glass balls. Legion officer, Sidonius Apollinaris also trained his troops to perform acrobatic figures with such spheres. Two thousand years later or almost, the Carreau du Temple writes the past in the present.
With a voice-over narrative that is superimposed on the physical act, the piece plays on coincidences or desynchronizations between what is seen and what is said, between real and imaginary. And we dive with delight into these “strange scenes” to appreciate the beauty of the gesture.
