At the Carreau du Temple we dance Merce Cunningham

The show SIMPLE, conceived by the Argentinian choreographer Ayelen Parolin and performed by the RUDA company, is an invitation to rediscover dance in all its simplicity and joy. Presented on 9 April 2025 to 19h30, in the beautiful auditorium of the Carreau du Temple This trio of dancers – Baptiste Cazaux, Piet Defrancq and Daan Jaartsveld – immerses us in a world where movement becomes a game, a playful and instinctive exploration.

Inspired by the post-modern dance of Merce Cunningham, SIMPLE is distinguished by its absence of music. The performers use their bodies as instruments, creating a rhythmic and visual score that evokes childhood and authenticity. Marie Szersnovicz's colorful costumes and ingenious set design add a vibrant visual dimension, reminiscent of cartoons and their exuberance.

Ayelen Parolin's choreography is a mix of self-deprecation and seriousness, in which the dancers allow themselves to be surprised by their own antics. The show explores the notion of play, a fundamental element of life, while paying homage to Cunningham and his playful approach to dance.
