Marimekko

Already rich in Scandinavian addresses, the Marais welcomes a new brand from the far North, and not just any brand, since it is Marimekko, the iconic Finnish brand created in 1951 by women in a country where they have long occupied a central role.

Marimekko

Specializing in homewares and textiles, Marimekko is a cult classic in its home country, as well as in Sweden and across Northern Europe. This is particularly true of the Unikko floral pattern by Maja Isola. It's instantly recognizable and adorns home decor and is found in almost every Scandinavian household, including coffee cups, plates, trays, and all kinds of tableware, as well as prints on kitchen tablecloths, bed sheets, bath towels, and more.

Marimekko

The story of the Unikko pattern is worth telling. Its design was born in 1965 from a creative rebellion within the company after founder Armi Ratia—one of the country's most famous female entrepreneurs—banned floral prints from her catalog, believing that real flowers were too unique to be reproduced.

Marimekko

Designer Maja Isola responded by painting oversized abstract floral forms inspired by poppies and other flowers, challenging traditional notions of floral design. It was a resounding success! Her work, which incorporates energetic colors and asymmetrical shapes, quickly became synonymous with the brand's bold aesthetic. To learn more and discover the world of Marimekko, rendez-vous from October 24 at the corner of rue du Poitou and rue Vieille-du-Temple where the Finnish brand planted the first seed of its Parisian flagship.
